ROLL
DATABASE IN SETUP MENU OPTION
COMPUTERIZED CROWNER RETROFIT SYSTEM
The
normal routine for inputting data into the SETUP Menu is described in the
section titled “Operation”. Essentially, this requires the operator to enter the
various parameters for each roll to be ground. For normal operation, this
only takes a few seconds, and the operators quickly learn the few steps required
to make these inputs.
However, there are some installations which require additional operator input
when changing roll setups. Typically, these have been machines that grind rolls
in chocks, or are grinding compound crowns with sharp bevels (chamfers) at the
roll ends. Usually this requires additional trip points slaved off the primary
TSF and TSH limits, plus extra profile names to define the bevel shape or
special end radius. These parameters can be entered into the SETUP menu in the
conventional manner. But to streamline the procedure, and make it easier
for the operators, RGB Engineering can supply a “database” type of setup menu.
With this option, the operator only has to select the correct roll name from a
database menu. This will then automatically enter all the required
parameters into the SETUP menu. The operator will still be able to override any
critical parameter - i.e.: crown height, crown/concave, trip switch set points,
etc.
