BACKLASH COMPENSATION OPTION

COMPUTERIZED CROWNER RETROFIT SYSTEM

RGB Engineering can supply a software modification that will compensate for any mechanical backlash that exists in the crown drive gear train, between the crown rack and the encoder takeoff point.  Essentially, what this does is add or subtract (depending on direction) a fixed number of encoder bits at each reversal of the carriage.  This would eliminate the hysteresis effect that shifts the crown curve due to mechanical backlash, and makes the theoretical and actual carriage positions agree with the crown axis.  This software B/L compensation would be an alternative to fixing the problem mechanically.
